Vettel sped around the 5.793-kilometre course in 1 minute 24.453 seconds in a sunny and warm afternoon in Monza.

Webber followed on 1:25.076 while Lotus drivers Kimi Raikkonen and Romain Grosjean posted identical times of 1:25.116. Fernando Alonso was fifth in 1:25.330, and Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes came sixth in 1:25.340.
