Vandana Dubey sets 3 national record

Sandep S Awari of Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh’s Vandana Dubey clinched the gold medals in the 93 kg and 63 kg class respectively, with the latter setting three national records in the Senior National Powerlifting championship here today.

In the squat event, Vandana lifted 190 kg to better her previous 185 kg, in deadlift she scored 190, bettering her 175 kg set last year and in total, she accumulated 482.50 kg to improve on her previous 462.50 set in 2011.

Santoshi Vibhar of Chandigarh (157.50, 100, 155, 412.50) and Santoshi Majhi (Rlys) 150, 80, 165, 395) took the second and third places respectively.

Awari lifted 350 kg in the squat, 225 in the benchpress and 310 in deadlift to finish with a total of 885 kg.

Kulwinder Singh of Punjab (280, 210, 277.50, 767.50) and J Sivaraman of Tamil Nadu (300, 170, 280, 750) settled for the silver and bronze medals.

In the 57 kg class, Rohini of Chandigarh bagged the gold, setting a national record in benchpress, while Rekha Acharya of Railways won the silver with a record in squat, and B Thejaswini Naidu of Andhra Pradesh clinched the bronze with a national record in deadlift.
