A day after the big moment at the Rashtrapati Bhawan where the President Pratibha Patil gave away various sports awards, N. Ramachandran, President, World Squash Federation, a recipient of the ‘Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puraskar', is convinced it was an unparalleled recognition for squash in India.

“I believe it was a recognition for the growth of the Squash Academy in Chennai over the last decade and the very many talents it brought out in this period,” Ramachandran, who is also the President of the Tamil Nadu Squash Rackets Association, told The Hindu .

Ramachandran, who was the inspiration behind the setting up of the academy with the help of both the State and Central governments' assistance, is now encouraged to get additional facilities for the existing structure. “I plan to work out a plan in this regard and put it before the Ministry,” he said.
