Two out of three races abandoned

October 05, 2010 06:59 pm | Updated 06:59 pm IST - Chennai:

Rains and changing wind patterns delayed and eventually forced the abandonment of two of the three races scheduled for day one of the India International Regatta, at the Chennai Port on Tuesday.

When the race did get underway, Peter Lin Janezic of Slovenia came in first in the Optimist single-hander category.

Muhammad Isan Bin and Mohamad Norizan's (both from Malaysia) were the only other boats to finish in the low wind and strong current conditions, claiming second and third place respectively by default.

Aman Vyas and Sachin Sinha (India) registered a win in the 29er division, with local lad Rufus Patrick and Anna Philips finishing second. The Race Officers called the rest of the races off after the winds failed to pick up.

The results (Race 1): Optimist: 1. Peter Lin Janezic (Slovenia), 2. Muhammad Isan Bin (Malaysia), 3. Mohamad Norizan (Malaysia).

29er: 1. Aman Vyas & Sachin Sinha (India), 2. Rufus Patrick & Anna Philips (India), 3. Shivam Sriivas & Shaila Charles (India).
