Two cycling golds for India

India picked up two gold medals in cycling as Bidyaluxmi Touranbam took the top spot in the women’s 30km distance race. Chaoba Devi Elangbam took the silver.

The men’s 40km race also saw a one-two finish by India as Arvind Panwar took the gold while Manjeet Singh finished second.

In squash, top seed Saurav Ghosal and Joshna Chinappa won their quarterfinal matches easily in the men’s and women’s individual events to keep India’s gold hopes alive.

Harinder Pal Singh Sandhu was the other Indian to make it to the men’s semifinals.

Women (quarterfinals): Joshna Chinappa bt Krishna Thapa (Nep) 11-6, 11-4, 11-4; Sadia Gul (Pak) bt Naduni Gunawardane (Sri) 11-4, 11-4, 11-4; Mihilya Methsarani (Sri) bt Sunayna Kuruvilla 6-11, 11-9, 4-11, 11-5, 12-10; Maria Toorpakai Wazir (Pak) bt Bhavana Sunwar (Nep) 11-4, 11-2, 11-3.

Cycling: Men: 40km: 1. Arvind Panwar 52:28.800, 2. Manjeet Singh 54:01.183, 3. Janaka Hemantha Kumara (Sri) 55:25.441.

Women: 30km: 1. Bidyaluxmi Touranbam 49:24.573, 2. Chaoba Devi Elangbam (Ind) 49:31.311, 3. Sabiha Bibi (Pak) 50:10.598.

Football: Men (Group A): Sri Lanka 1 (M.C.M. Rifnas 13) bt India 0.

Volleyball: Men (Group A): India bt Nepal 25-15, 25-16, 25-16.
