Toyota Racing Series: Penalty costs Maini the top position

January 28, 2015 03:12 am | Updated 03:12 am IST - Bengaluru:

India’s Arjun Maini finished first in Race 1 of Round 2 of the Toyota Racing Series before incurring a penalty that stripped him of victory.

Maini started third on the grid at the Teretonga circuit in New Zealand recently, before working his way to the front in an interrupted race that required the safety car to intervene twice.

Maini’s restart on the second occasion, however, was deemed improper and the 17-year-old was hit with a 10-second penalty after the race. His camp protested the decision but to no avail. Maini, who drives for the M2 Competition team, remains second in the championship standings with 311 points. Ten races remain in the season.
