Lajja Gauswami topped the women’s rifle 3-position event with a score of 449.0 in the National shooting trials at the Dr. Karni Singh Range, Tughlakabad, on Friday.
In a dramatic climax Lajja delivered a 10.3 to take the top honour while Tejaswini Sawant stumbled with a 7.6 on the 45th shot.
Lajja had qualified in the third place with a score of 573, behind Raj Chaudhary (575) and Ruchira Arun Lawand (574).
Meena Kumari was temporarily in the lead after 30 shots, but had to settle for the third place subsequently. Elizabeth Susan Koshy lost the tie-shoot to Meena and slipped to the fourth spot. Raj Chaudhary was placed sixth while Rajkumari Rathore was placed seventh.
In men’s rifle prone event on Thursday, Gagan Narang topped with 206.7, after having placed at the top among the qualifiers with a score of 624.8, in a strong field of 108 shooters. Gagan beat Pankaj Gurung of the Army by 1.4 points.
Rakesh Manpat slipped to the sixth spot while Joydeep Karmakar was beaten to the third place by Anubhav Pratap Singh of Uttar Pradesh.
