Kerala boys down Rajasthan to triumph

Tamil Nadu girls defended their title with a 77-58 victory over Kerala in the final of the 69th National junior basketball championship at the Guru Nanak Dev Stadium on Monday.

Kerala, however, won the boys’ title, beating Rajasthan 108-101 after trailing 49-52 at half-time. Kerala had dethroned Punjab in the semifinals, after having lost to Rajasthan in the league stage.

Rajeev, Vaishnavi star

Rajeev Singh (Rajasthan) and Vaishnavi Yadav (Uttar Pradesh) were adjudged MVPs in the men’s and women’s sections.

The results: Boys (final): Kerala 108 (Shanazil 29, Chacko 26) bt Rajasthan 101 (Rajeev Singh 40, Sumeet 16).

Third place: Punjab 97 (Rajan 39, Jagshanbir 19) bt Delhi 44 (Aditya 27).

Girls (final): Tamil Nadu 77 (Aishwarya 17, Pratibha 15, Pushpa 14) bt Kerala 58 (Sreekala 14, Ann Mary 12).

Third place: Uttar Pradesh 72 (Vaishnavi 53, Kavya 13) bt Karnataka 32 (Sanjana 12).
