Veteran Muni Ram Tirkey of Bengal and the promising Prativa Boro of Assam emerged the men's and women's champions in the recurve event of the 34th National Games archery competition at Jamshedpur on Thursday.
The men's field had all the best Indian archers in the fray — Jayanta Talukdar, Tarundeep Rai, Mangal Singh Champia — but all lost early to lesser-known names. Tirkey, National champion in 1999, stopped Viswash Kumar of Services six sets to four.
Manjeet Singh of Jharkhand created a new Games record in the men's 94 kg section of the weightlifting event at Jamshedpur. He lifted 150 kg to erase the record of 142 set by Sukhwinder of Punjab in 1999.
