Three Indians in individual finals

Indian archers are in line for more medals in the Asian Grand Prix with Rahul Banerjee, Jignas Chittibomma and Anjali Kumari advancing to the finals of their respective events in Bangkok on Wednesday.

Rahul beat compatriot Atanu Das 6-2 in the semifinals of the men’s individual recurve event by winning three of the four sets 24-27, 28-27, 27-26, 29-27. Two points are awarded for winning each set. Rahul faces Takaharu Furukawa of Japan in the summit clash on Thursday. Furukawa defeated Hsin-Fu Chen of Chinese Taipei 6-2 in the other semifinal. Atanu will face Chen in the bronze medal play-off.

In men’s compound individual event also, Jignas made it to the final after defeating Ardianto Yanu of Indonesia 145-140. Jignas shot a series of 29, 29, 29, 29, 29 in the 15-arrow contest. He will take on He Ying of China in the final.

In the women’s individual compound event, Anjali advanced to the final with a 135-132 victory over Loh Contessa of Singapore. In the women’s individual recurve, Bombayla Devi will feature in the bronze medal play-off after she lost her semifinal to Ika Yuliana Rochmawati of Indonesia.
