Tenpin bowling championship: TN takes slender lead

Tamil Nadu took a slender lead over its nearest rival Karnataka to finish the first day of the Mixed Team of Five event on top in the Canara Bank National tenpin bowling championship at the Blu-O bowling alley on Saturday.

Team Tamil Nadu — comprising Shabbir Dhankot, Senthil Kumar, Sabeena Sallem, Rajmohan and Dinesh Kumar — scored 2,912 pinfalls and will enter the second and final day on Sunday with a lead of 27 pins. The two-day event consists of three games on each day.

In the men’s All Events, Delhi’s Dhruv Sarda maintained his lead, while Sabeena Saleem of Tamil Nadu leads the women’s field at the end of 21 games. The results: Mixed Team of Five (day 1): 1. Tamil Nadu (2,912); 2. Karnataka (2,995); 3. Delhi (2,746).

All events: Men: 1. Dhruv Sarda (Del) 4,367 pinfalls; 2. Akash Ashok Kumar (Kar) 4,202; 3. Shabbir Dhankot (TN) 4,180. Women: 1. Sabeena Saleem (TN) 3,870; 2. Prathima Hegde (Kar) 3,848; 3. Aishwarya Rao (Kar) 3,742.
