Table tennis: PSPB starts favourite

Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB) is expected to continue its dominance in the National junior and youth table tennis championships, which begins at the Radha Auditorium here on Tuesday.

With a star-studded line-up, PSPB starts the overwhelming favourite.

Abhishek Yadav and Sudhanshu Gover will spearhead the PSPB challenge in the youth section while in the juniors Manav Thakkar, Lalrin Puia, Lalhunhlua and Anukram Jain will prove more than a handful to their rivals.

Manika Batra, Retth Rishya, Senhora D’Souzha and Archana Kamath will be leading the PSPB’s campaign in the junior and youth sections respectively.

The recent age-related controversy has weakened the potential rivals of PSPB and last-minute pull-outs from West Bengal and North Bengal have left the stage open for the petroleum side to extend its dominance for yet another year.

However, PSPB will only be competing in the youth and junior boys’ categories. The absence of PSPB in junior girls’ section has left the field open.

The battle for the silverware will be between West Bengal, North Bengal, Telangana, Tamil Nadu.

Host Kerala will fancy its chances in the junior girls’ section with Serah Jacob and Maria Rony leading the challenge for the host.
