Table tennis: Manika in Polish Open semifinals

India’s Manika Batra entered the girls’ semifinals after scoring a hard-fought win over Yui Hamamoto of Japan in the ITTF Polish Junior Open in Wladyslawowo, Poland on Thursday.

The 18-year-old Indian paddler overcame stiff resistance from the higher-ranked Hamamoto before prevailing 9-11, 11-9, 11-7, 10-12, 11-3, 12-10 in the quarterfinals.

Manika will take on another Japanese, Ayane Morita, in the last-four stage.

In the pre-quarterfinals, Manika had defeated Germany’s Theresa Kraft 13-11, 11-3, 11-9, 10-12, 11-7.
