Stars appeal for squash as Olympic sport

Several leading players, including the World's No.1 James Willstrop and Nicol David, who are in London for the British Open took time off from the courts to show solidarity in the World Squash Federation's campaign to make squash a part of the 2020 Olympic Games. Also joining the group was India's top player and world No. 14 Dipika Pallikal.

Nicol, the six times world champion from Malaysia said "Squash has every element of what a true Olympic sport should be. It would be amazing if we were there with all the other racquet sports. We have so much to offer the Olympic programme.”

England's Willstrop said that "Squash is what sport should be. We've got everything; it's physical, mental, tactical and psychological. The sport is also well-established.”

Expressing his view on the occasion, the WSF President, N. Ramachandran said he was delighted with the unanimous show of support by the players. “Their support is an important element to our campaign as we head to a crucial 12 months period. The IOC Programme Commission and Executive Board will get to hear and see what the benefits to the Olympic Movement would be if squash becomes part of 2020 Games.”
