Commonwealth Games bronze medallist V. Srinivasa Rao edged out Madhya Pradesh's Ramanna by one point to clinch the men's 56-kg gold on the opening day of the 63rd men's and 26th women's senior National weightlifting championships at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium here on Wednesday. Competing under the Services banner, Srinivasa lifted a total of 236kg (100, 136) to finish ahead of Ramanna (103+132=235).
In another close contest, National Games gold medallist H. Shaya Devi lifted 163kg (73, 90) to pip fellow Manipuri N. Lakshmi Devi (72+90=162) to the gold.
The results: Men: 56kg: 1. V. Srinivas Rao (Ser) (snatch 100kg, clean and jerk 136kg, total 236kg); 2. Ramanna (MP) (103+132=235); 3. G. Veeramani (TN) (98+130=228).
Women: 48kg: 1. K.H. Sanjita Chanu (Meg) (67+88=155); 2. N. Thoinu Devi (Man) (63+85=148); 3. Sharada Siddi (Kar) (63+81=144).
53kg: 1. H. Shaya Devi (Man) (73+90=163); 2. N. Lakshmi Devi (Man) (72+90=162); 3. M. Santoshi (IWF) (71+90=161).
