SRFI strikes parity in prize money

After a successful 2017 with 21 tournaments in the National circuit, the Squash Rackets Federation of India (SRFI) will introduce some changes to the guidelines with immediate effect, an SRFI press release said on Thursday.

There will be equal prize money for male and female players in all tournaments (in all categories — u-11, 13, 15, 17 & 19) in the National circuit. Currently this system is in vogue in the senior events including the National championships.

The SRFI, it said, is keen to be the frontrunner in the country to provide parity in prize money in all its fixtures.

In a bid to give an added sharpness to competitions in the junior section, when a player moves to the higher age-category following a birthday, 35% (instead of 50%) of each of the best four results from the lower category will be transferred and the two records merged.

Another proposal is to bring Pro-coaches and Masters category participants into the domain of the ranking system which is currently for only junior and senior players.
