Squash coach passes away

A leading squash coach of the country Sunil Verma, who was attached to the Jindal Squash Academy (Maharashtra), passed away in Mumbai on Monday following a heart attack. He was 42.

Sunil had the distinction of producing international class players such as Sandeep and Vikas Jangra, Urwashi Joshi and Saumya Karki.

Sunil had travelled on a number of occasions with the Indian team, the last being to Jordan with the Indian juniors for the Asian individual championship.

In a condolence message, N. Ramachandran, Patron, SRFI and President, World Squash Federation, said: “It is a great loss to Indian squash. His contributions to the field of coaching shall always be remembered.” The SRFI Secretary-General Srivatsan Subramaniam, all coaches at the Indian Squash Academy, Consultant Maj. (R). S. Maniam and national coach Cyrus Poncha also condoled the death.
