India’s best known sports magazine, SPORTSTAR , is set for a re-launch on Wednesday across the country in a new format designed to attract and please all sections of readers.
In Chennai, tennis stalwart, Ramanathan Krishnan, will release the first copy.
Simultaneously, top sportsmen and women have been lined up for release in other centres.
First published as SPORT AND PASTIME by Kasturi and Sons to give Indian sport a new perspective in the wake of independence, S & P established its primacy thanks to the articles and features from renowned writers like Neville Cardus, Jack Fingleton, S.K. Gurunathan, Alex Bannister and top columnists in each discipline.
Renamed in 1978 as The Sportstar , retaining the flavour, freshness and features, the magazine switched to the tabloid form before reverting to the magazine format in 1980.
Now, in response to the thousands of readers across the length and breadth of the country, advertisers and marketing personnel, Sportstar , is ready for re-launch in a new format today, timing it with the Olympic Games in London .
The SPORTSTAR -OLYMPIC SPECIAL, which will be on sale from tomorrow, contains a wealth of information, in-depth articles, and, of course, marvellous pictures and portraits of the heroes and heroines at the London Games.
Among the many well-wishers on the launch is Jacques Rogge, President, International Olympic Committee.
In a message, the IOC Chief, a triple Olympian (1968, 72, 76) in yachting, writes, “On behalf of the Olympic Movement, I would like to extend my greetings to all Sportstar readers.
“Fans of the Olympic Games are an integral part of every edition of the Games, Your passion for sport and your support of the athletes has helped make the Games what they are today, the world’s greatest sporting spectacle.
