Thor Chuanleong had a facile 63-7, 65-38, 88-34, 0-63, 66-32 win over Scotland’s Gary Thomson in the IBSF World snooker championship here on Sunday.
Chuanleong stroked a 60-break in the third frame to take a 3-0 lead, but Thomson roared back with an unanswered 51 in the fourth.
The 26-year-old Chuanleong constructed a fine run thereafter, and went on to run away with the match.
Saurav Kothari took out Singapore’s Lim Chun Kiat 59-42, 43-71, 70-29, 70-25, 76-1 to register his fourth straight win.
A victory for India’s Vidya Pillai put her in a commanding position in the race to qualify from the group stages, while Pankaj Advani, Kamal Chawla, Amee Kamani and Chitra Magimairaj all progressed to the knockout round.
Defending women’s champion Wendy Jans suffered a shock defeat at the hands of Thailand’s Waratthanun Sukritthanes. The 20-year-old Waratthanun tops her group with five wins from as many matches, while Wendy went down for the first time in her four ties so far.
