Kamal Chawla’s run of five wins on the trot in Group F came to an end after the Railway cueist fumbled with a blue in the decider against Singapore’s Ang Boon Chin in a league stage match of the IBSF world snooker championship at the Sree Kanteerava Indoor stadium here on Monday.

The Indian was off to a slow start with some unintended in-offs. But, being the steely fighter that he is, Kamal managed to level at three after being 0-2 down.

In the decider, Kamal led 43-36, with a break of 39, and looked like pulling it off before botching the blue.

Boon Chin, who was slow but steady, clinched the frame for his fourth win in five matches.

In the women’s section, with Vidya Pillai and R. Umadevi losing from advantageous positions, young Arantxa Sanchis — who had problems with her vision — put it across fellow Indian Amee Kamani, roaring back from 0-2 down.
