National silver medallist Smit Singh enhanced his chances of making the national squad with two perfect rounds of 25, as he topped the table with 122 among seven skeet shooters, in the trials at the Karni Singh Range, Tughlakabad, on Wednesday.
One point behind overnight leader Man Singh, Smit had shot a perfect round in the final in the National championship after shooting 117 in qualification. That qualification score could be a stumbling block as the final tabulation will be an average of the national score and the average of two scores of the trials.
Asian champion Man Singh stumbled with rounds of 23 and 21, to reach a total of 117. He had shot 121 in the national championship.
Sheeraj Sheikh had the second best of performance of the day, following rounds of 25 and 24, as he reached 120. National champion Allan Daniel Peoples shot 118, four points below his fare in the National championship.
Parampal Singh Guron was also undone by a bad round, 21 in the fourth, and could only reach a total of 117.
The seventh shooter in the fray, Amrinder Singh Cheema, the only one not to have made the National final, shot 111, despite rounds of 22 and 23 in the morning.
