Asian champion Man Singh shot a score of 113 out of 125 and finished 50th in men’s skeet, in the Shotgun World Cup, in Tucson, US, on Monday.
Man Singh had a series of 23, 20, 25, 22 and 23, in a highly competitive field in which the top two in qualification equalled the world record of 124.
A score of 122 had to endure a shoot-off for the last berth, from among four.
In fact, Luigi Lodd of Italy had to negotiate the shoot-off and prevailed 10-9 to beat Stefan Nilsson of Sweden for the gold, after the two had tied on 15.
Though the Indian skeet shooters were unable to strike their best form, it was an impressive performance as Manavjit Singh Sandhu’s trap gold put India among five countries to win a gold along with the US, Australia, Italy and Slovakia, in an overall field of about 300 shooters.
In fact, only nine of the 45 countries won medals. China, Britain, Sweden and Russia were the other countries to win at least one medal.
