Shagun Chowdhary was in the hunt for the gold as she enjoyed a two-point lead at the halfway stage but eventually missed a podium finish in women's trap in the shotgun World Championship in Belgrade, Serbia, on Thursday.
Despite that, she sported a big smile as her fourth place finish won her an Olympic quota place.
In a strong field of 68, the 28-year-old Shagun was fighting only with Australian Catherine Skinner in the six-member final. The Indian took a four-point lead midway as the Aussie missed five birds in a row after the 10th.
Shagun shot the first 12 straight, but could only fire five more birds off the next 13 in the single-shot final. Both shooters missed the last birds to finish level, but Shagun was placed ahead on a count-back.
Earlier, Shagun had got through a nerve-wracking shoot-off to make the final after a career-best 72 out of 75. With seven tied on 72 for five of the six slots in the final, Shagun had to first to ensure an entry into the final to stay in the hunt for the Olympic quota.
Varsha 21st
Among the juniors, Varsha Varman had three rounds of 20 while taking the 21st spot from among 28.
