Indian cadet girls’ team in semifinals

It was a productive day for India at the SET Thailand Open junior table tennis tournament as the cadet girls’ team entered the semifinals on Thursday.

The junior girls’ team too reached the last four but went down to Chinese Taipei.

Indian junior boys entered the final of the consolation competition after a 3-0 victory over Malaysia.

The junior girls finished second in the group and qualified for the semifinals. However, Chinese Taipei got the better of India 3-0 in the last-four stage.

A 3-1 win over Thailand B in the quarterfinals helped India advance in the cadet girls’ team event where its next opponent is top seed Hong Kong. India topped the group by virtue of winning all its matches.

The results:

Juniors: Boys (consolation competition): India bt Malyasia 3-0 (Utkarsh Gupta bt Lam Chee Yin 11-8, 11-6, 11-7; Lalrin Puia bt Ong Cheong Sze 11-4, 11-6, 11-7; Sanish Ambedkar bt Sarthak Seth 11-4, 11-3, 11-7).

Girls (semifinals): Chinese Taipei bt India 3-0 (Lin Po Jusan bt Sreeja Akula 12-10, 11-8, 11-5; Hsuan Chia Lin bt Shruti Amrute 11-6, 11-3, 11-6; Wen Ruei Ling bt Maria Rony 11-5, 13-11, 11-8).

Group stage: India bt Thailand C 3-1 (Sreeja Akula bt M. Phacharapon 11-5, 11-5, 5-11, 11-8; Shruthi Amrute lost to Mahawichian 11-7, 9-11, 11-9, 5-11, 4-11; Maria Rony bt Thitisuda Premsiri 12-10, 11-9, 11-1; Shruthi bt M. Phacharapon 11-8, 11-8, 11-9).

Thailand A bt India 3-0 (Orawan Paranang bt Sreeja 7-11, 11-8, 11-4, 9-11; Tamolwan Khithera bt Shruti Amrute 11-4, 11-9, 11-7; Cathareeya Pougsri bt Maria Rony 6-11, 11-9, 11-3, 11-5).

Cadet girls (quarterfinal): India bt Thaliand B 3-1 (Archana Kamat bt Jinnipa Savetbut 11-4, 11-9, 11-9; Varuni Jaiswal lost to Monapsom Saritapirak 11-4, 6-11, 5-11, 10-12; Srusthi Halengadi bt Naja Mekamporu 11-4, 11-8, 13-11; Archana bt Saritapirak 11-9, 11-8, 11-9).
