Saravanan takes the honours

July 09, 2012 01:04 am | Updated 01:04 am IST - HYDERABAD:

National champion Vishnu Sarvanan of CESC won the title in the Optimist category with eight wins from ten races as the Monsoon Regatta sailing championship which concluded at the Hussainsagar Lake in Hyderabad on Sunday.

With a good mix of caution and aggression, Vishnu showed commendable maturity for a boy of 13 years and got the better of the more experienced sailors. He has been sailing since the age of 10 and has made rapid strides to reach the top within three years.

Vishnu was followed by Diya Correa of RBYC and Ramya Sarvanan of CESC Pune in second and third places respectively.

Local lad Raghavendra of the Yacht Club of Hyderabad, came fourth just three penalty points behind Ramya. He achieved the highest rank a Hyderabad sailor has achieved at an Optimist Class Regatta in as many years.

Raghavendra was happy with his best performance ever and said that he is targeting the next nationals and maybe an international too, if he is able to get sponsors.
