Sarabjit went past his own National marks in +105kg clean and jerk and total on the concluding day of the weightlifting selection trials at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium Complex auditorium here on Sunday.
Sarabjit lifted 215kg in his third and final attempt in clean and jerk and a total of 380kg. His National records stand at 206kg (clean and jerk) and 372kg (total).
The lifter said he took care not to pick up an injury while trying to improve his showing.
Geeta Rani was disappointing as she managed a total lift of only 222kg. This performance was way below her showing of 235kg at the Udaipur Nationals earlier this year.
“If she repeats her performance of the National championship, then she will get a medal in the Commonwealth Games as well,” chief coach Harnam Singh said.
Monika Devi, back in action after serving a two-year ban due to a doping offence, was not up to the mark even though she comfortably finished as the best in women's 75kg.
“My body was not in proper shape. But my training has been going on well and I can improve a lot,” she said.
