Olympian Sumit Sangwan and Asian championship silver medallist Th. Nanao Singh have made a comeback to the Indian team selected for the upcoming World boxing championship.
In the trials conducted at Patiala, World and Olympic medallist Vijender Singh, who went through a tough phase after being linked to a drugs racket, also made it to the side in the 75kg division.
The World championship will be the first event for the star pugilist after his participation in last year’s Olympic Games.
In 49kg, promising boxer L. Devendro Singh’s cut in the eye during the trials proved to be a blessing in disguise for fellow Manipur boxer Nanao, who was out of action due to injury issues. Another talented youngster Sangwan, who performed well in the London Olympics before being laid low by injury, also made a return to the squad.
Guangzhou Asian Games silver medallist Manpreet Singh won the 91kg slot by getting the better of Dinesh Kumar, who had bagged a silver in the 81kg category in the 2010 Asiad.
The World Championship will be held at Almaty, Kazakhstan, from October 11 to 27.
