Sanam bags gold medal

Isiah Rajendra Sanam snatched a gold medal in the men’s individual compound event of the 16th Asian archery championship at Bali on Saturday.

The 15th-ranked Andhra Pradesh archer overcame fourth-ranked Indonesian Nyoman Puruhito 106-103 in a tense final.

Two more bronze medals came India’s way through Jayanta Talukdar and Manjudha Soy. In a battle between Indians, fifth-seeded Talukdar quelled the challenge of 11th-seeded Mangal Singh Champia 112-110 in the men’s individual recurve bronze medal play-off.

Manjudha, also ranked 15th, put paid to the aspirations of eighth-ranked Iranian Seyedeh Halimian 113-111 in the women’s individual compound bronze medal play-off.

India ended the championship with two gold, two silver and two bronze medals.
