Saina, Sindhu enter last eight

India’s Saina Nehwal and P.V. Sindhu entered the quarterfinals of the Star Australian Super Series badminton here on Thursday after posting comfortable victories in their respective women’s singles second-round matches.

However, other Indians in fray in both the men’s singles and doubles events bowed out.

Saina defeated compatriot P.C. Thulasi 21-18, 21-15 in 42 minutes while Sindhu took just 31 minutes to down Thailand’s Nichaon Jindapon 21-13, 21-7.

Meanwhile in men’s singles, sixth seed Zhengming Wang of China beat B. Sai Praneeth 21-15, 8-21, 21-19.

Doubles: Lee Sheng Mua & Tsai Chia Hsin (Tpe) bt Alwin Francis & Arun Vishnu 21-18, 21-9; Sung Hyun Ko & Baek Choel Shin (Kor) bt Pranaav Jerry Chopra & Akshay Dewalkar 21-13, 21-19.

Women: Singles: Saina Nehwal bt P.C. Thulasi 21-18, 21-15; P.V. Sindhu bt Nichaon Jindapon (Tha) 21-13, 21-7.
