Swimmers and beach volleyball players will compete at midnight during the Rio 2016 Olympics, organisers have said.

Event times have been scheduled to suit NBC’s prime-time television coverage in the U.S., Xinhua reported.

Swimming finals will begin from 10 p.m. while some beach volleyball matches will be held at midnight at Rio’s iconic Copacabana beach.

“The Olympic Games are a global event and the schedule has to work around the world to give the best showcase for each sport,” IOC spokesman Mark Adams said. “It’s quite a balance. They seem to have reached a conclusion that suits everybody.”

The IOC’s executive director Christophe Dubi said organizers had overcome prior concerns about delays to venue facilities.

“I’m 100 percent confident that we will get the venues that we need ready in time,” Mr. Dubi said.
