Formula One team Red Bull is confident that the appeal against Daniel Ricciardo’s disqualification from the Australian Grand Prix will succeed and he will be restored to the podium.

Ricciardo finished second in the race won by Nico Rosberg of Mercedes but was subsequently disqualified for a fuel flow rate, which exceeded the legal limit.

“It is no fault of Daniel. I don’t believe it is the fault of the team. I believe we have been compliant to the rules,” team principle Christian Horner said in Melbourne.

“Hopefully through the appeal process it will be quite clear that the car has conformed at all times to the regulations.

“We would not be appealing unless we were extremely confident that we have a defendable case.”
