Rajesh Chaudhary of AYN kept a clean slate by winning both the races in Laser Radial class on the third day of National Laser and Board Sailing Championships here on Friday.
The races were held under strong gusty winds in the morning and light winds in the evening.
Donald Coelho showed his determination to fight back when he won the first race of the day in spite of lagging behind Derrick throughout the race.
Derrick and Remy got off to a flying start with Donald in the third place. A determined Donald, however, fought back to overtake Remy in the second leg of the race. He, then, chased down Derrick in the last leg of the race and shot past Derrick barely 25m before the finish line. In the second race of the day, Derrick, Donald and Remy finished first to third in a close race.
With fluctuating winds, the lead constantly changed hands. However, Derrick kept a constant cover on Donald to ultimately win the race and maintain his lead in the overall championships at the midway stage.
Chaudhary kept a clean slate by winning both the races of the day with reasonable ease in the Laser Radial class.
In the first race of the evening, Rajesh got off to a good start. There was a close tussle between BK Rout, Dharmender Singh, Jaswir Singh and Ramesh Kumar.
While Rajesh maintained a comfortable lead, the other four tussled for the second and third spot.
Ultimately, it was Rout who proved his superiority by winning the second spot followed closely by Dharmender Singh.
Rout again took the second spot in the sixth race with Jaswir Singh taking the third spot.
In the Laser Standard and Laser 4.7, only one race could be held due to fluctuating wind.
Gajender Singh of AYN got off to a good start followed by Harihara, Sukwir Singh and Mohanlal. All four sailors kept a good cover on their competitors and made sure that they did not allow the next sailor to pass them.
