Rahi Sarnobat shot 579 and finished 19th in women’s sport pistol at the Royal Artillery Barracks on Wednesday.

It was not the main event for the other Indian shooter in the fray, Annu Raj Singh, and it came as no surprise when she shot 575 to take the 30th spot.

The 21-year-old Rahi missed the final by four points following a 291 in the precision series and a 288 in the rapid fire stage.

Kim Jang-mi triumphs

The event was won by South Korea's Kim Jang-mi, upsetting defending champion Chen Ying of China. Kim finished with a total of 792.4 points, just one ahead of Chen, and Ukraine's Olena Kostevych third on 788.6.

The youngest member of the Indian shooting squad, Rahi won a bronze medal in the World Cup with a spectacular effort in the final. She had shot a 582 then.

She fared brilliantly in the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi when she took the team to the gold and clinched the individual silver behind compatriot Anisa Sayyed.

After Gagan Narang’s bronze in the 10m men’s air rifle event here, it will be the turn of Asian Games gold medallist Ronjan Sodhi to shoulder the hopes of the Indian contingent in double trap on Thursday.
