Rahi Sarnobat's 582 saw her miss a slot in the final by one point in the shooting World Cup at the Royal Artillery Barracks in London on Sunday.
It was a good chance for the young Sarnobat to check out the finals hall at the Olympic venue, but a card of 45 in the rapid fire section spoilt her chances. She had shot 293 in the precision section and fought back after the early lapse to garner 289 in the rapid fire stage.
Annu Raj Singh, who has qualified in air pistol for the Olympics, shot 578 following identical scores of 289 in the two stages. She started with a 94 and ended with a 95, but shot 99, 96, 96 and 98 to finish 22nd in a field of 67.
The main Indian shooter in the event, Anisa Sayyed, who had shot to fame with her fine performances in the Commonwealth Games, did not compete because of a hand injury. National coach Prof. Sunny Thomas said that it was a minor injury but decided not to take a risk.
The results: Men: Skeet: 1. Stefan Nilsson (Swe) 148 (123); 2. Mikola Milchev (Ukr) 147 (122); 3. Tore Brovold (146) 121. 28. Mairaj Ahmad Khan 116; 49. Man Singh 113; 71. Allan Daniel Peoples 110.
