QBR off to a great start

The Queen’s Baton had a memorable relay in the Capital and at the Taj Mahal in Agra, on Saturday.

While leading sportspersons Yogeshwar Dutt, Amit Kumar, Krishna Poonia, Ravi Kumar, Samaresh Jung, V.R. Raghunath, P.R. Sreejesh, S.V. Sunil and Birender Lakra made it a lively affair in the Capital as the Queen’s Baton was taken to the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium and India Gate, it had a rousing reception in Uttar Pradesh.

The Uttar Pradesh Olympic Association senior vice-president Shyam Singh Yadav and secretary general Anandeshwar Pandey along with a number of sportspersons received the Queen’s Baton.

The district administration presented the Glasgow Games officials mementos of Taj Mahal, much to the delight of the visitors.

The Glasgow Commonwealth Games organising committee vice-chairperson, Louise Martin expressed happiness about the reception, while the officials felt it as “a great start to the relay’’.

The Queen’s Baton will be taken to Qutub Minar on Sunday.
