P.T. Usha to head Arjuna panel

P. T. Usha has been appointed the chairperson to head the committee that has been constituted to select the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna, Arjuna and Dhyanchand awards apart from Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puraskar for 2010.

In a release issued here on Thursday, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports stated that Ashok Kumar, son of hockey legend Dhyan Chand, will be the chairman for the committee that would decide the Dronacharya award for coaches.

Prominent sportspersons in list

While both the lists of committees are full of prominent sportspersons such as Leander Paes, Anjali Bhagwat, Karnam Malleswari, Aparna Popat, M. M. Somaya, Limba Ram, Rajendra Prasad andManjit Dua, both the panels will have a few common government officials.

The Director General, Sports Authority of India, Sayan Chatterjee, Joint Secretaries Injeti Srinivas and Rahul Bhatnagar, Special officer Pravir Krishn and Director Deepika Kachhal figure in both the panels either as members or special invitees.

The committees:

Arjuna award: P. T. Usha (chairperson), Aparna Popat, M. M. Somayya, Nisha Millet, Leander Paes, Karnam Malleswari, LImba Ram, Adhiraj Singh.

Mohd. Habib. Sriram Bhavasar, Pradip Singh, S. G. Baruah, Sayan Chatterjee, Injeti Srinivas, Rahul Bhatnagar, Pravir Krishn and Deepika Kachhal.

Dronacharya award: Ashok Kumar (chairman), Vandana Rao, Rajendra Prasad, Mohammed Zulfiqaruddin, Anjali Bhagwat, Manjit Dua, Gurcharan Singh, Ismail Baig, G. E. Seedharan, Cyrus M. Poncha, Jhanjha Tripathy, U. K. Chauhan, Sayan Chatterjee, Injeti Srinivas, Rahul Bhatnagar, Pravir Krishn and Deepika Kachhal.
