India’s junior boxers are getting ready to take on the world’s best in the AIBA Youth Men’s World Boxing Championships 2012 to be held in Yerevan, Armenia from November 28 to December 7.

Currently honing their skills at the SAI Western Training Centre in Aurangabad (Maharashtra) under the supervision of coach-in-charge junior (youth) men, G Manoharan, the youngsters will be up for selections in the Indian team for the mega-event in the first week of October.

The championship was earlier slated to be held in October at Bangkok. The Youth World Championships, held every two years, saw a significant increase in the participation and performance levels in the previous edition with 466 boxers from over 100 countries.

The 2008 and 2010 championships had competition in 11 weight categories. But this year the weight classification has been brought down to 10 (46kg-49kg, 52kg, 56kg, 60kg, 64kg, 69kg, 75kg, 81kg, 91kg, 91+kg), similar to the senior level competition.
