Saina crashes out of Singapore Open

Saina Nehwal’s crashed out of the $300,000 Singapore Super Series, losing to Eriko Hirose of Japan in a three-game battle in the opening round on Wednesday.

However, K. Srikanth, B. Sai Praneeth, H.S. Prannoy, P.V. Sindhu and P.C. Thulasi progressed to the second round.

P.V. Sindhu, the eighth seed, overcame the challenge of Millicent Wiranto of Indonesia 21-9, 19-21, 22-20.

P.C. Thulasi notched up a 21-13, 21-16 victory over New Zealand’s Anna Rankin.

In the other women’s singles matches, Arundhati Pantawane fought hard before going down to Shizuka Uchida 21-16, 11-21, 15-21, while top seed Li Xuerui of China cruised past Tanvi Lad 21-6, 21-11.

In men’s singles, K. Srikanth got past Japan’s Takuma Ueda 23-21, 21-15 while world No. 45 B. Sai Praneeth defeated Malaysia’s Mohamad Arif Abdul Latif 21-13, 21-15.

P. Kashyap made his exit after going down to Korea’s Lee Dong Keun 16-21, 21-15, 22-20 in a match that lasted 76 minutes.
