The Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) Players’ Championship will be held at the par-72 Coimbatore Golf Club (CGC) course in Chettipalayam here from April 2 to 5.

The championship marks the return of professional golf to this part of the region after a gap of two years. The four-day event, which carries a cash purse of Rs. 30 lakh, features 120 professional and five amateur golfers. Rolex Rankings champion and title holder Rashid Khan, Chiragh Kumar, Mukesh Kumar, Chikkarangappa, Angad Cheema, M. Dharma, Harendra Gupta, Om Prakash Chouhan and Shankar Das are some of the top professionals who have confirmed participation. And, Karan Taunk, one of India’s top amateur, will play his first event as a professional in Coimbatore.

The last edition here witnessed a thrilling finale in which Rashid claimed a playoff victory over Vikrant Chopra to clinch his first professional title on Indian soil.

The field also has foreign professionals in Mithun Perera and Thangaraja (Sri Lanka), Shivaram Shrestha (Nepal) and Md. Zamal Hossain Mollah (Bangladesh).

The local challenge will be led by Coimbatore-based professionals Joseph Chakola, S. Muthu, C. Ilayaraja and M. Rajesh Kumar. R. Shyam Sunder, the CGC Golf Captain, was happy to welcome the PGTI golfers. “The course is at its best since its inception and is sure to challenge the golfers’ skill.”
