The Professional Golf Tour of India’s Cochin Masters, which begins at the CIAL Golf Club, Nedumbassery on Wednesday, has attracted a strong field this time.
Apart from stars like Gaganjeet Bhullar, Chikkarangappa, Rahil Gangjee, reigning Rolex Rankings champion Shankar Das and defending champion Shubhankar Sharma, the four-day event has also attracted players from Australia, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
The tournament, now in its second year, has an enhanced prize-money of Rs. 55 lakh with the winner assured of Rs. 8.25 lakh.
The event was held on a nine-hole course last year but this time, it will be on an 18-hole course which wears a settled look. “It’s very hot and humid here, so it will be a tough test,” said the young Subhankar who pulled off a surprise win last year in a field that included Anirban Lahiri, the current World No. 34.
After the main tournament, a Pro-Am event will be played on March 8.
