Jordan Burroughs won the United States’ 40th gold of the London Games in the men’s 74 kilogramme freestyle wrestling on Friday, while Russian Djamal Otarsultanov won the men’s 55kg.

World champion Burroughs overcame Iran’s Sadegh Saeed Goudarzi, the man he also beat in the 2011 world championship final, to win 3-1 in front of a capacity crowd at the ExCeL Arena.

Bronze medals went to Russia’s Denis Tsargush, world champion in 2009 and 2010, and Soslan Tigiev of Uzbekistan.

Earlier, 25-year-old Otarsultanov defeated Georgian Vladimer Khinchegashvili 3-1.

In the bronze medal bouts, North Korean Yang Kyong-Il defeated Daulet Niyazbekov from Kazakhstan, while the second bronze medal went to Shinichi Yumoto from Japan, who beat Bulgarian 2008 bronze medal winner Radoslav Velikov 3-1.
