Omkar 16th in free pistol

Omkar Singh shot 555 and finished 16th in men's free pistol in the shooting World Cup at the Royal Artillery Barracks, London, on Wednesday.

Omkar had a series of 92, 90, 94, 95, 92 and 92. The other Indian in the fray, Om Prakash had a bad start and wound up with a total of 541 that placed him 42nd in a field of 50. The third Indian Prakash Nanjappa had failed to make the cut in the elimination round on Tuesday when he shot 548.

The reigning World ChampionTomoyuki Matsuda of Japan outclassed the field in the qualification with a score of 572 that gave him a seven-point lead, but a below-par fare in the final saw him eventually pip Vladimir Isakov of Russia by 1.6 points for the gold.

In men's trap, former world champion and the reigning Asian champion Manavjit Singh Sandhu shot rounds of 24 and 23, while Anirudh Singh (21 and 23) and Anwer Sultan (18, 24) lagged further down in a strong field of 106 shooters.

In women's trap, Shagun Chowdhary (21), Seema Tomar (19) and Varsha Varman (17) were not at their best in the first of three qualification rounds in a field of 51 shooters.
