New Zealand officials say they’ll delay the departure of athletes for the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi by at least two days because of the “tremendously disappointing” state of the athletes’ Village.
The first New Zealand competitors were due to arrive in New Delhi this weekend but the New Zealand Olympic Committee on Thursday called on athletes to delay their travel while outstanding issues with the Village are rectified.
NZOC president Mike Stanley says, “The long list of outstanding issues has made it clear the Village will now not be ready for New Zealand athletes to move in as planned.”
Scotland and Canada decided Wednesday to delay departures for their teams.
