New deadline set for IBF to hold elections

August 30, 2013 02:24 am | Updated November 16, 2021 09:21 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

The International Boxing Association (AIBA) has set December 4 as the new deadline for the Indian Boxing Federation (IBF) to hold its elections.

Softening stand

After receiving IBF’s response on Wednesday, AIBA softened its stand and said it was satisfied with the progress that the IBF had made with regard to holding of new elections and the adoption of a new constitution.

Extension

“On Wednesday, AIBA accepted IBF’s request for a one month extension to arrange the elections.

The deadline, therefore, is December 4, 2013,” said AIBA PR and Communications Director Sebastien Gillot through an email.

“Last Monday, AIBA provided feedback to the IBF on the draft constitution and the parties are very close to agreeing to a final form of the constitution.

The IBF is moving forward with its internal approval process,” he added.

IBF Secretary-General Rajesh Bhandari said the National body was eagerly awaiting AIBA’s final approval of its constitution. “After getting the go-ahead from AIBA we will hold the elections at the earliest possible date,” said Bhandari.
