Tiger can overtake Nicklaus: Jeev

Jeev Milkha Singh says Tiger Woods has it in him to break Jack Nicklaus’s record of winning 18 Majors.

This week, the 37-year-old Woods will be aiming to add the Masters crown at Augusta to his collection of 14 Major titles.

Speaking to the media soon after becoming Volvo’s brand ambassador in the country, Jeev said, “I’ve always maintained that Tiger has the game and the determination to win more Major titles than anyone else.”

Jeev, however, was disappointed at not being part of the field for the 77th edition of the Masters.

“I will miss not being there but that also fires me to do well during the season. I aim to get my ranking back into the world’s top-50 and give myself an opportunity to play next year’s Masters,” he said.

The 41-year old, who reached a career-high world ranking of 28 in 2009, is currently ranked 112.

Jeev also spoke excitedly about the upcoming movie based on the life of his father Milkha Singh, titled Bhaag Milkha Bhaag.

“I think it will be a very inspiring movie. I know how hard Farhan Akhtar (who portrays the legendary athlete in the film) has worked for two years. Director Rakeysh Om Prakash Mehra has done a great job. I wish the movie gets nominated for the Oscars in the ‘best foreign language’ category,” said Jeev, who will also be seen briefly in the movie.

The film is slated for worldwide release on July 12.
