National Track cycling: Manjeet hogs the limelight

Manjeet Singh of SSCB broke the 13-year-old record in men’s 4000m Individual pursuit to hog the limelight on the penultimate day of the National Track cycling championship here on Saturday.

Manjeet clocked 4:57.146s to erase Sarabjit Singh’s old mark (5:01.010) set in 2002. Amala Vinod of Kerala won the double in junior girls’ section winning the gold in 10km point race and 2000m Individual pursuit.

The results: (winners only):

Men: 4000m Individual pursuit: Manjeet Singh (SSCB), (4:57.146 NR; OR – 5:01.010, Sarabjit Singh, 2002). Juniors: Shri Ram Godara (Raj) (3:56.647). Sub-juniors: Anil Manglaw (Har) (2:34.760).

Women: 3000m Individual pursuit: R.K. Abe Devi (Man) (4:23.895). Juniors: Amala Vinod (Ker) (2:59.765).

10km point race: Amala Vinod (Ker) (23 points). Sub-juniors: Vaishnavi Gabhane (Mah), (3:05.642).
