National squash championships: Harinder meets Ghosal

Harinder Pal Singh Sandhu, seeded third, hit winners at will to defeat India No. 2 Mahesh Mangaonkar 3-0 in the men’s semifinals of the 62nd senior National squash championships at the CCI courts on Friday.

He will face India’s best player, Saurav Ghosal, for the men’s title.

Joshna Chinappa, as expected, advanced to the women’s final where she will meet Sachika Ingale.

The wristy Harinder proved too good for the young Mangaonkar, seeded number two here. The third seed won 11-4, 11-4, 11-7 in 40 minutes.

The results (semifinals):

Men: Saurav Ghosal (TN) bt Ravi Dixit (TN) 11-7, 11-7, 12-14, 11-8; Harinder Pal Singh Sandhu (TN) bt Mahesh Mangaonkar (Mah) 11-4, 11-4, 11-7.

Women: Joshna Chinappa (TN) bt Akanksha Salunkhe (Goa) 11-4, 11-5, 11-6; Sachika Ingale (UP) bt Urwashi Joshi (Mah) 4-11, 11-8, 11-8, 11-6.

Professionals: Parthiban (TN) bt Sanjay Pawar (Mah) 11-5, 11-6, 11-4; Paramit Singh (Del) bt B. Balamurugan (TN) 11-4, 11-4, 11-8.
