National junior basketball: Kerala girls keep winning

Former champion Kerala brushed aside Madhya Pradesh 91-67 for its third straight win and moved to the quarterfinals of the girls’ section in the 65th National junior basketball championship ere on Wednesday evening.

Kerala, the runner-up last year, took time to settle down and trailed 18-22 after the first quarter but once the girls found their feet, there was a flow of baskets.

Meanwhile, last year’s semifinalist Tamil Nadu suffered its third straight loss in the girls’ section, bowing to Karnataka 65-88 in Group ‘A’.

The results:

Boys: Level I: Group A: MP 72 (Shubham 27, Himanshli 18) bt Chhattisgarh 59 (Rajat 14, Rajesh 13, Shiv Kumar 13). Delhi 104 (Sunil 41, Gaurav Ohlan 16, Narender 15) bt Kerala 72 (Amal Anto 20, J. Sonu 15, Akhil 10).

Group B: Punjab 116 (Gurwinder Singh Gill 17, Arjun 17) bt Orissa 45 (Aditya Pradhan 13, Sahid Khan 12). Maharashtra 83 (Kalbhor 21, Sandhu 18) bt Karnataka 76 (Sachin 22, Sawkin 16).

Level II: Group C: HP 73 (Sahil Bali 22, Rishab 15) bt J & K 60 (Akashvir 19, Jaskirat Singh 13, Pranav 12). Group D: Gujarat 78 (Shahzad 31, Samjaysinh 12) bt Puducherry 66 (A.R. Murali 19, Aniruddha 14).

Girls, Level I: Group A: Karnataka 88 (Bhandavya 42, Lopamudra 13) bt TN 65 (Hemalatha 13, Srividya 12). Group B: Maharashtra 63 (Sruthi 24) bt Haryana 56 (Suman 24, Bharti 22).
