National Games: Naveen, Rejani claim titles

Naveen John Thomas (Karnataka) won the men’s 36km individual time trial road race and Rejani Vijayakumari (Kerala) the women’s 72km road mass start event in the cycling competitions of the 35th National Games here on Saturday.

The Karnataka lad timed 50:08.04 finishing ahead of Arvind Panwar (Maharashtra) and Amit Jangara (Services). Panwar clocked 50:28.37 and Jangara 50:44.64.

In the women’s race, Rejani beat Seema Rani (Haryana) by a narrow margin as she pushed herself at the finish with a final burst. The Kerala girl was timed at 2:29:40.58 even as the Seema followed closely at 2:29:40.62.

T.P. Anjitha was not far behind as she added a bronze to the home team’s tally, clocking 2:29.40.64.
