Olympic and World Championship medallist Gagan Narang topped the men’s free rifle prone event in two sets of trials at the Karni Singh Range, Tughlakabad.

Narang shot 209.4 to top the second trials in which he beat Surendra Rathod by 3.1 points for the first place in the knock-out finals in the new format, on Friday.

He had shot 207.5 in beating another Olympian Sanjeev Rajput by 2.4 points in the first trials a day back.

In men’s air pistol, Jitu Rai of Army topped the two trials with scores of 200.1 and 202.2 in the finals.

Together with his silver medal in the national championship, Rai assured himself of a berth in the national squad.

P.N. Prakash of Karnataka, the bronze medallist in the national championship, did well to take the second spot in the second trial and the fourth spot in the first.

In women’s 50m rifle prone event, world champion Tejaswini Sawant topped the first trial with a total of 618.8. Kuheli Gangulee (617.3) and Shikha Dhall (612.5) followed her in that order.
